Renowned for its lush landscapes, traditional villages, and remarkable history, Samos is a destination that truly offers something for everyone. According to the ancient historian Herodotus, the island was once home to the largest temple in Greece, dedicated to the goddess Hera. It is also the birthplace of great minds such as Pythagoras, the father of mathematics, and Epicurus. Today, visitors are welcomed by the island’s warm-hearted locals and surrounded by its rich vegetation, vineyards, and authentic traditions.
Tour Highlights
Your journey begins with a scenic drive through the countryside to the charming village of Koumeika, followed by a visit to a traditional olive oil factory where you will learn about local olive oil production.
Next, in Koumaradei, you’ll stop at a pottery workshop to enjoy a small ceramics demonstration and experience one of the island’s oldest crafts firsthand.
A guided visit follows to either the Monastery of Timios Stavros or Megali Panagia, where you’ll discover the spiritual heritage and peaceful atmosphere of Samos.
One of the day’s most significant highlights is a visit to the ancient Heraion of Samos, the legendary Temple of Hera. English guiding (with translation if the group exceeds 20 participants) will be offered inside the archaeological site. Please note: The site is closed on Tuesdays.
You will then continue to Pythagorion, the island’s main tourist resort, where you’ll have free time to explore the picturesque harbor and enjoy lunch at a local taverna (lunch not included).
The day concludes with a visit to a winery near the village of Kondeika. Here, you’ll uncover the secrets of Samos’ renowned wine culture and enjoy a small wine tasting before returning to your hotel.
